Protect steel and concrete from corrosion

Steel and concrete corrode in wet, salty and chemical conditions. GRP lamination applies a fibreglass layer over metal and concrete surfaces to protect them from corrosion and extend their service life. Alphatek arranges GRP lamination and coating for contractors and FM teams across the UAE.

How GRP lamination works

  1. Surface preparation: the surface is cleaned, and rust or loose concrete is removed, so the lamination bonds well.
  2. Primer or first coat, to suit the surface.
  3. Glass fibre and resin layers are laid up to the build-up needed.
  4. Top coat, for a smooth, sealed finish.

Good surface preparation is the most important step. Most coating failures start at a poorly prepared surface.

Where it is used

  • Steel structures and fittings in wet, salty or chemical conditions
  • Concrete pits, sumps, channels and chambers
  • Plant rooms and wet areas
  • Existing tanks that leak or have worn surfaces. See our GRP lining guide.

Repair or replace?

Lamination can extend the life of steel and concrete that is still sound underneath. If the structure is badly damaged, replacement may be the better choice. Send us photos and we will advise.
