Water Hammer Arrestors Stop Pipe Banging & Pressure Surges

Water hammer arrestors in brass, copper and stainless steel, in multiple sizes – supplied across Dubai and the UAE.

Water Hammer Arrestors Supplier in Dubai, UAE

Water hammer is the loud bang or knock you hear when a valve closes quickly and the water in the pipe stops suddenly. Each shock can push pipe pressure several times above normal. Over time it loosens supports, damages valves and fittings, and causes leaks inside walls and ceilings.

A water hammer arrestor absorbs that shock. It has a sealed air or gas cushion behind a piston, so the pressure wave is taken up inside the arrestor instead of travelling through the pipework. Alphatek supplies water hammer arrestors to contractors, MEP consultants and FM companies across Dubai, the UAE and the GCC.

Signs your building has water hammer

  • A loud bang or knock when a tap, flush valve or washing machine shuts off
  • Pipes that shake or rattle inside walls and ceilings
  • Leaks at joints and valves that keep coming back
  • Noisy solenoid valves on irrigation, water features or equipment

Arrestor or air chamber?

An old-style air chamber is just a capped length of pipe. Over time the air dissolves into the water and the chamber stops working. A sealed water hammer arrestor keeps its cushion behind a piston or bellows, so it keeps working without draining or recharging.

Installation checklist

  • Fit it as close as possible to the quick-closing valve
  • Put one at the end of each branch serving several fixtures
  • Keep it accessible for inspection
  • Check the pressure-reducing valve setting – high pressure makes water hammer worse

Frequently asked questions

What causes water hammer?
A fast-closing valve stops moving water suddenly. The water’s momentum creates a pressure spike that travels back through the pipe and makes the banging sound.
Where should a water hammer arrestor be installed?
As close as possible to the valve that causes the shock, usually within 1.8 m (6 ft), on the supply line to that fixture or group of fixtures.
Do water hammer arrestors need maintenance?
Sealed piston-type arrestors do not need recharging or regular maintenance.
Can you supply arrestors for a whole building?
Yes. Send the drawings and we will size and quote every location.
Will an arrestor fix banging in an existing building?
Yes. Arrestors are often retrofitted in Dubai villas and apartments. They are fitted close to the valve that causes the shock, usually without major works.
Do you provide submittals?
Yes. We provide technical data sheets and submittals for consultant approval.
