When to choose a wide base

Choose the wide base where a standard pedestal needs more support:

Larger or heavier slabs, such as stone and concrete pavers or large-format porcelain.
Busy commercial areas, such as hotel and restaurant terraces, public walkways and podium decks with planters and furniture.
Soft or sensitive substrates, such as insulation boards and waterproofing membranes. A wider footprint spreads the load and reduces point pressure.
Edges and corners, where a slab is supported by fewer pedestals.

How it works with the pedestal system

The separate disc enlarges the footprint of the pedestal base. Heights are made up with the standard pedestal range and extensions, and the joint tabs keep the spacing even. You can mix wide-base and standard pedestals on the same floor, using wide bases only where they are needed.

Installation tips

Set out a grid to match the slab size. One pedestal sits under each corner junction, shared by four slabs.
Add a mid-span pedestal under large-format slabs.
Keep water flowing to the roof drains under the floor, and leave a removable slab over each drain for access (see Flat Roof Drain).
Check with your waterproofing supplier whether a protection layer is needed under the pedestals.

How many pedestals do I need per m²?

It depends on the slab size. With 600 × 600 mm slabs it is roughly 3 per m², plus extras at edges and around drains and penetrations. We prepare the take-off from your drawings.

Can I mix wide-base and standard pedestals?

Yes. Many projects use wide bases at edges and in busy zones, and standard bases elsewhere.
