Why a lid matters in the UAE

In the UAE heat, the water in a drain trap can evaporate quickly in rooms that are not used every day, such as guest bathrooms, utility rooms and villas left empty over the summer. When the trap dries out, smells and insects come up through the drain. The screw-fixed lid closes the drain between uses.

When to use it

  • Guest bathrooms and utility rooms used only now and then
  • Villas and apartments that stand empty for part of the year
  • Laundries and service rooms where the drain is used occasionally
  • Hotel rooms during low season

Using the lid

Close the lid when the area will not be used for a while. Open it before washing the floor, so water can drain away. For daily-use bathrooms, a two-piece drain or a tile-insert drain may suit better.

Material and finish

AISI 316 is standard and recommended for wet areas; 304 is optional. Matte is standard, and mirror polish suits premium bathrooms.

Frequently asked questions

When is a floor drain with a lid useful?
In areas used occasionally, where the lid keeps smells and insects out between uses.
Which size suits a bathroom?
100 mm suits most bathrooms; 150 or 200 mm for larger wet areas.
Is a mirror finish available?
Yes. Matte is standard; mirror polish is available for premium bathrooms.
Does the lid replace an odour trap?
No. The lid closes the drain when not in use, and the trap blocks smells while the drain is open. Using both gives the best protection.
Can the lid be removed?
Yes. It is screw-fixed and can be opened whenever the drain is needed.
Is it suitable for balconies?
It is mainly for indoor areas used now and then. For balconies, see our Planter & Balcony Drains.
