Getting Drainage Products Approved: A Submittal Checklist for Dubai Projects

On most Dubai projects, drainage products are approved before they are ordered. The consultant, and sometimes the authority, reviews a submittal for each item. A complete submittal gets approved first time; a missing document means a rejection, a resubmission and a delay on site.

What a typical submittal includes

Document What it shows
Product data sheet Description, dimensions and features
Material and grade For example SS 304 or SS 316, PVC, ductile iron
Sizes and quantities Each size against the drawing reference
Drawings Dimensions, outlet positions and fixing details
Finish Matte, mirror, brushed or coated
Duty rating Light-duty or heavy-duty for gratings and covers
Compliance documents Test reports or certificates, where the specification asks for them
Samples For finish or detail approval, when requested

Common reasons for rejection

  • The wrong grade, such as SS 304 where SS 316 was specified.
  • A missing drawing or dimension.
  • No duty rating for gratings or covers in traffic areas.
  • A finish that does not match the specification.

Tips for a fast approval

  1. Check the specification section and any approved product list first.
  2. Submit one complete pack per item, not documents in pieces.
  3. Reference the drawing and BOQ item on every page.
  4. Ask the consultant early if a document is unclear.
