When you need a curved channel

Straight channels cut into short sections leave gaps, steps and uneven joints around a curve. A radius channel is made to follow the curve in one smooth line. Architects use them around:

• Curved swimming pools and pool decks
• Round courtyards, fountains and water features
• Curved building fronts and entrances
• Driveway turns and roundabouts in villa compounds
• Curved steps and landscaped paths

What we need to make a curve

• The radius, and whether it is measured to the inside or the outside of the channel
• The arc length, or the start and end points on the drawing
• Inside or outside curve: water falling towards or away from the centre
• The cover type: slot, heel-safe or standard grate
• Outlet positions

The easiest way is to send the CAD drawing. We will send fabrication drawings for approval.

Slot or grate on a curve?

A slot gives the cleanest line on curved pool decks and plazas. A grate is easier to lift for cleaning, and suits driveways and areas with more water. See Stainless Steel Slot Drains and Heel-Safe Gratings.

Installation notes

1. Set out the curve on site from the drawing, using several fixed points.
2. Set each section to level and line, and join the curved and straight sections.
3. Pour the surrounding concrete or bedding without moving the channel.
4. Lay the paving up to the channel from both sides.
