Not every project fits a catalogue. Special-size channels, non-standard gratings, drip trays and architectural details often need to be fabricated to drawing. Here is how a typical stainless steel fabrication job runs, and how to keep it on time.
1. Enquiry and requirements
Share your drawings, sketches, BOQ or site measurements. The most useful details are dimensions, the steel grade (SS 304 or SS 316), sheet thickness, finish, quantity and the required delivery date.
2. Shop drawings
Shop drawings are prepared showing dimensions, materials, welds and fixing details. These are sent for the consultant’s or client’s approval before anything is cut.
3. Fabrication
Once approved, the steel is cut, formed and welded. Welds are cleaned, pickled and passivated to restore corrosion resistance, then finished (brushed, polished or bead-blasted) as specified.
4. Quality checks
Dimensions, flatness, weld quality and finish are checked against the approved drawing before packing.
5. Packing and delivery
Items are protected with film and packed to prevent scratches in transit, then delivered to site across the UAE.
Tips to avoid delays
- Confirm site dimensions before approving shop drawings.
- Specify the grade and finish clearly. “Stainless steel” alone is not enough.
- Allow time for approvals in the programme.
- Consolidate similar items to simplify fabrication.

Approval of shop drawings, quantity, finish and the accuracy of site measurements all affect the lead time. Approving drawings quickly keeps the job on programme.
