Why spas need their own drainage
Spa floors are wet all day, washed often, and walked on barefoot. Water is warm, and in hammams and steam rooms it carries soap and oils. The drainage has to be hygienic, easy to clean, comfortable underfoot, and good-looking, because the floor is part of the design.

Why AISI 316
Warm, humid air, cleaning chemicals, chlorine and salt from treatments all attack stainless steel. AISI 316 resists these much better than 304, and is the right choice for spas. See our SS 304 vs SS 316 guide.
Choosing the cover
- Tile insert: for the cleanest look, where the floor finish continues over the channel. See Tile-Insert Linear Shower Drain.
- Slot: a narrow line, ideal for large-format tiles and stone.
- Fine grate: comfortable underfoot, and the easiest cover to lift for cleaning.
Hygiene and cleaning
Choose channels with smooth internal corners and no hidden ledges, so water and dirt cannot sit inside. Fit an odour trap, and clean the channel and trap regularly as part of the spa's cleaning plan.
Installation notes
- Set the channel to level, at the finished floor height.
- Seal the waterproofing membrane to the channel flange.
- Lay the floor with a fall towards the channel.
- Tile or finish up to the channel edge, and fit the cover.
