Grease traps are made in several materials. The right choice depends on where the trap goes, how much it will hold and how aggressive the wastewater is.

PVC grease traps
- Fully corrosion-free – kitchen wastewater and cleaning chemicals do not attack PVC.
- Lightweight, so easier to handle and install in existing kitchens.
- Can be fabricated to custom sizes and inlet/outlet positions.
Stainless steel grease traps
- Clean, hygienic appearance for under-counter units in visible areas.
- Higher cost; grade selection (304 or 316) matters in wet, salty or chemical conditions.
Concrete or GRP chambers
- Used for large external interceptors built into the ground.
- Need good sealing and lining to resist FOG and hydrogen sulphide over time.
Quick comparison
| Material | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| PVC | Kitchens of all sizes, retrofits, custom layouts | Protect from direct sun if installed outdoors |
| Stainless steel | Visible under-counter units | Cost, choice of grade |
| Concrete / GRP | Large in-ground interceptors | Sealing and long-term lining |
