How the calculator works

Pavers on pedestals are supported at their corners. Inside the floor, each pedestal carries the corners of up to four pavers, so you need roughly one pedestal per paver plus an extra row along two edges. The calculator counts the paver grid for your floor, adds the edge pedestals, any centre supports and your chosen spares.

When to add centre supports

Large pavers (900 mm and over, or 600 × 1200 mm) and thinner porcelain pavers should have an extra pedestal under the middle of each paver. It stops the paver flexing and rocking under foot traffic and furniture. The calculator ticks this automatically for large sizes; you can change it.

What the estimate does not include

  • Cut pavers around drains, columns, upstands and edges
  • Different pedestal heights across a sloping roof
  • Extensions, slope correctors and perimeter trims

For an exact list, send us the floor plan, finished floor level, roof levels and paver size. We will work out the pedestal types, extensions and quantities for you – see raised floor pedestals, screw-adjustable pedestals and decking supports.

Frequently asked questions

How many pedestals per square metre do I need?
For 600 × 600 mm pavers it is usually about 3 to 3.5 pedestals per m², including edges. Smaller pavers need more; larger pavers need fewer unless you add centre supports.
Does the calculator include spares?
Yes. You can add 3%, 5% or 10% spares. We suggest 5% for most terraces.
Should I add centre supports?
Yes for pavers of 900 mm and over, 600 × 1200 mm pavers, and thin porcelain pavers in busy areas.
Does the joint width matter?
Slightly. Wider joints make each paver module bigger, which can change the paver and pedestal count on larger floors.
Can you check my quantities?
Yes. Send us your floor plan, levels and paver size and we will confirm the pedestal types and quantities with your quotation.
